nishikawakatsuhito_
Katsuhito Nishikawa: Echoes of Silence Exhibition Catalog Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art

This is the official catalogue published to coincide with the first retrospective exhibition in Japan of German-based artist Katsuhito Nishikawa (1949–).

For over 40 years, Nishikawa has focused his attention on light and darkness and the shadows that emerge between them, developing a wide range of media including sculpture, photography, painting, drawing, installations and architectural structures. His white sculptures, made from wood and plaster, harbor a subtle gradation within their simple structure, and stand quietly, as if absorbing the surrounding light and sound. They simply exist without flaunting their presence. This serenity is the core of Nishikawa's work.

This book is centered around an exhibition of approximately 70 pieces curated by the artist himself, and is composed entirely of Nishikawa's own photographs, including the photographs of the works. By superimposing installation views and images of the individual works, the silence that permeates the space and the differences in the texture of each piece emerge.

The white-based binding features two types of embossing, which echo the delicate gradations of shadows that run through the work. While being a catalog, it also has the feel of an artist's book, condensing the essence of the artist's aesthetics and creativity.

[Title] Katsuhito Nishikawa: Echoes of Silence
[Publisher] torch press
[Publication date] 2024
[Number of pages] 140 pages
[Size] Approx. 25 x 280 mm / 748g
[Format] Hardcover
[Language] Japanese, English
[Title reading] Seijaku no Hibiki
[Authors/Editors] Kiyoko Maeda (Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art) / Writing, Yoshihisa Tanaka / Design, Kana Furusho ( Center Inc. ) / Design
[printing]
[ISBN] 978-4-907562-51-9
[Condition] Used 【9】Good condition
[Accessories] Exhibition catalogue
[Featured book] -
[Related Exhibition] Saturday, September 14, 2024 - Sunday, January 26, 2025 "Katsuhito Nishikawa: Echoes of Silence" Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art

Katsuhito Nishikawa (1949-)

Born in Tokyo in 1949.
