In 1968, he left the advertising production company Light Publicity to become independent as a freelancer. In 1966, he was the youngest artist selected for the \"Ten Contemporary Photographers\" exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and in 1976 he was selected to represent Japan at the Venice Biennale.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e Since the 1970s, he has made a name for himself with his \"Gekisha\" series. He has photographed Momoe Yamaguchi, Akina Nakamori, and others, and has produced many portraits that symbolize the era. In 1991, he published Kanako Higuchi's \"Water Fruit\" and Rie Miyazawa's \"Santa Fe,\" sparking a boom that became a social phenomenon.
