About Bunbuku
BUNBUKU is an online bookstore based in Tokyo.
We offer both new and used books, specializing in photobooks, art books, craft and folk art related books, zines, and exhibition catalogs.
The owner carefully selects and introduces each book that they feel "deserves to be preserved."
Our selection includes not only works by famous photographers and artists, but also small-run self-published works, pamphlets made in regional areas, long out-of-print books, and even ephemeral items like scraps of paper. We don't limit ourselves by genre or era, valuing the atmosphere and tactile quality each book possesses.
We also carry books from overseas publishers and artists, as well as those from Japan. Leveraging our own experience in production and publishing, we aim to be a store where the connection between people and books feels a little closer.
About the Name Bunbuku
The name "Bunbuku" is derived from the old Japanese folk tale "Bunbuku Chagama" (also written as 分福茶釜 or ブンブクチャガマ).
I chose this name because I like the feeling of wonder and familiarity that resides in old tools and everyday objects.
I believe books, too, carry time and memories as they pass from person to person.
