"TTP" is the first collection of works by Japanese photographer Hayato Tomiyasu . It was published in celebration of his winning the 2018 First Book Award , an award for unpublished writers sponsored by the British publisher MACK .

The story is set in Leipzig, Germany. From the south-facing window on the eighth floor of the student dormitory where the artist lived, there was a single ping-pong table ( tischtennisplatte ) in a corner of a park. After a certain incident, Tomiyasu began photographing this table as if it were a fixed point of observation. On sunny days, rainy days, and snowy days, he continued to take pictures quietly from the same distance and perspective through the spring, summer, fall, and winter.

The ping-pong table is rarely used for its intended purpose. There is a shirtless man sunbathing, children playing on the table, people stretching, people spreading out their lunch boxes, young people starting boxing practice, crows, and couples. The table does not reject people, does not limit its use, and simply exists there. The fixed framing, long shots, and deadpan gaze bring out the passing of time, human habits, and a somewhat quaky humor.

This series, which was produced over the five years from 2012 to 2016, was already considered a "thing of the past" for the artist when it came to fruition as a photobook. Tomiyasu's attitude of moving on to his next work before checking the evaluation of his work is symbolic of his creative approach, which goes beyond self-impersonation.
