A photo book by Lars Tunbjörk, one of Sweden's leading photographers, titled "Office / LA Office."
This is the 2024 edition, re-edited with a new binding and the unreleased series "LA Office," of his seminal work "Office," originally published in 2001, which sharply depicted the emptiness and humor of corporate society.
For "Office," Tunbjörk spent about five years photographing office spaces in Stockholm, New York, and Tokyo. Gray partitions, meeting rooms lit by fluorescent lights, expressionless employees. What is captured is not only an optimized workplace but also the boredom, loneliness, and inexplicable weariness of a controlled society.
The images, composed with strong colors and dry humor, are highly regarded as a masterpiece that visualizes the absurdity of modern labor.
The separate volume "LA Office" contains an unreleased series created in his later years. Set in the office culture of Los Angeles, it inherits the perspective of "Office" while showcasing a lighter observation and sophisticated color sense.
Even as times change, and desk spaces are replaced by co-working spaces and desktop PCs by smartphones, it quietly shows that the sense of stagnation lingering in human workplaces remains unchanged.
The design was handled by Greger Ulf Nilson, who has collaborated with Tunbjörk for many years. This highly accomplished new edition is re-edited while respecting the design of the 2001 version.

Lars Tunbjörk (1956-2015)
Born in Borås, Sweden in 1956. Photographer.
After working as a photojournalist for a local newspaper, he turned his attention to the everyday landscapes of modern society, such as urban suburbs, commercial spaces, and office environments, establishing his unique color photography style.
Using strong colors, harsh flash, and frontal compositions, he depicted the emptiness of consumer society, the weariness of the work environment, the loneliness of suburban life, and the comicality and pathos of modern people, infused with humor and critical perspective.
His representative works include "Landet utom sig," "Office," "Home," and "Winter." "Office," in particular, set in corporate spaces in Stockholm, New York, and Tokyo, is highly acclaimed as a work that symbolically documented office culture in the early 21st century.
His works are held in collections such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Centre Pompidou, and the Maison Européenne de la Photographie. His global re-evaluation continues even after his death.
