Issue 27 of the Berlin-based culture magazine "mono.kultur," featuring photographer Ryan McGINLEY.

"mono.kultur" focuses on one creator per issue, delving into their thoughts and creative background through an in-depth interview. This issue features Ryan McGinley, who became an iconic figure in photographic expression from the 2000s onward.

Young people running wild in nature, naked bodies, smoke, light, injuries, the pre-dawn air. McGinley's photographs exude the exhilaration of youth, fleeting in an instant, and a certain ephemeral solitude.

McGinley held a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum in his 20s and continued his work across "The New York Times Magazine," advertising, and fashion. This issue includes many candid remarks behind his creative process, such as his thoughts on the young Dash SNOW who passed away, his admiration for Jack Kerouac's "On the Road," and his complex feelings towards Robert Frank.

This content records the thoughts and turning points of a photographer who continued to capture "youth" itself, lightly traversing the boundaries between commerciality and art, as of 2011.

Includes a separate Japanese translation.

Ryan McGINLEY 1977-

Born in New Jersey, USA, in 1977. Photographer.

Began working in the New York art/skate culture scene in the late 1990s. Gained attention for early works documenting the daily lives of his friends and young people, and held a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum in 2003. Became a representative figure of contemporary American photography at a young age.

Using motifs such as young people racing through nature, nudity, smoke, light, and road trips, he vividly depicts the exhilaration and transience of youth, and the longing for freedom, with vibrant colors. He greatly influenced fashion photography and advertising expression from the 2000s onward.

However, his works also exude not only the dazzle of American freedom but also a sense of loss, solitude, and the fragility of community.
