Tadanori Yokoo (1936-)

Born in Nishiwaki City, Hyogo Prefecture. Artist, graphic designer.

After working at Kobe Shimbun, he became independent. From the 1960s, he produced innovative posters and book designs in the fields of theater, music, and publishing, becoming a leading figure in Japanese graphic design.

In 1972, he held a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Subsequently, he shifted his focus to painting, producing self-portraits, landscapes, the "Y-junction" series, and more. He has held numerous exhibitions both in Japan and internationally and continues his prolific creative activities to this day.

His major works include "Osan Kimono: Oblivion," "TADANORI YOKOO," the "Y-junction" series, and the "Kanzan Jittoku" series.

His main awards include the Mainichi Design Award, the Medal with Purple Ribbon, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, and the Praemium Imperiale.

His works are housed in major collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Centre Pompidou, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, and the Tadanori Yokoo Museum of Contemporary Art.
